Bisan Owda
Bisan Owda is a 25- or 26-year-old Palestinian journalist, activist, and filmmaker from Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip. She has gained international prominence for her on-the-ground reporting and social media videos documenting daily life, hardships, and the human impact of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, particularly since the escalation of the Israel after October 2023.
Her work, often starting with the signature phrase “It’s Bisan from Gaza, and I’m still alive,” has been shared widely by outlets like Al Jazeera, BBC, ABC News, and CBS, amassing millions of views and over 4 million followers on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. She has collaborated with organizations such as UN Women on gender equality, the European Union on climate change, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Her pre-war content, like the show Hakawatia on Roya TV, focused on Palestinian history, culture, and social issues.
Owda’s opinions and reporting on Palestine and Gaza are deeply rooted in her lived experiences as a Palestinian civilian. She portrays Palestine—particularly Gaza—as a land enduring systemic oppression, occupation. Her perspective emphasizes the humanity, resilience, and rights of Palestinians, challenging what she and her supporters see as mainstream media’s dehumanization of her people. She highlights themes of survival amid bombardment, forced displacement, starvation, lack of medical care, and destruction of infrastructure, while calling for international solidarity, boycotts, ceasefires, and an end to the blockade.
