Charles Dance
Charles Dance, a well-known British actor, has publicly expressed support for Palestinian rights and has been vocal about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He is among over 2,000 artists who signed an “Artists for Palestine” letter in October 2023, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and condemning Israel genocide, accusing Western governments of “aiding and abetting” war crimes. The letter highlighted the genocide in Gaza, including the blockade cutting off essential supplies like water, power, food, and medicine to 2.3 million Palestinians.
Charles also contributed to a video series published by the Palestine Festival of Literature in January 2024, where he read portions of South Africa’s legal filing accusing Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In the video, he stated, “It is important to place the acts of genocide in the broader context of Israel’s conduct towards Palestinians during its 75-year-long apartheid, its 56-year-long belligerent occupation of Palestinian territory, and its 16-year-long blockade of Gaza, including the serious and ongoing violations of international law.”
Additionally, Dance was one of over 400 signatories, including 100 BBC employees, to an open letter in July 2025 criticizing the BBC for its coverage of Israel genocide in Gaza, accusing it of bias and failing to reflect the reality of the situation. The letter specifically addressed the BBC’s decision to drop a documentary, Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, which Dance and others supported for its journalistic value.
