Cynthia Nixon
Cynthia Nixon has been a vocal advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza and has expressed strong support for Palestinian rights. She participated in a five-day hunger strike outside the White House in November 2023 to demand a permanent ceasefire and protest the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including food shortages caused by Israeli blockades. Nixon has criticized Israel genocide, stating in a press conference that “Israel has killed more civilians on a tiny strip of land than were killed in 20 years of war in the entire country of Afghanistan,” highlighting the high civilian death toll, particularly among children and women. She has also called on President Joe Biden to use his influence to secure a ceasefire and address the suffering of Palestinians, emphasizing empathy for Gaza’s children.
Nixon’s activism is partly inspired by her son, Seph Mozes, who is involved with Jewish Voice for Peace and participated in a hunger strike in Chicago in June 2025 to protest U.S. military aid to Israel and the ongoing conflict. She has cited her Jewish heritage, noting her children’s connection to Holocaust survivors, and has argued that “never again” should apply to all people, including Palestinians. Nixon also supported South Africa’s 2024 genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice by participating in a video project organized by the Palestine Festival of Literature, reading sections of the charges.
In April 2025, Nixon faced controversy for wearing a shirt resembling the Palestinian flag in a promotional trailer for And Just Like That…. While some praised her for her stance, others criticized her, accusing her of supporting a cause at odds with her identity as a lesbian, given the treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals in Gaza. Her representatives clarified that the shirt’s design was coincidental and not an intentional political statement. Nixon has also signed open letters, including one with over 260 celebrities urging a ceasefire and another with over 700 SAG-AFTRA members condemning the industry’s suppression of pro-Palestinian voices.
