Kehlani has been vocal about their support for Palestinians in the context of the genocide in Gaza. She has publicly criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza, describing them as a genocide and expressing frustration with the silence of peers in the music industry.
In a May 2024 Instagram video, Kehlani called out “highly platformed” individuals for not speaking out about the atrocities in Gaza, emphasizing the need for humanitarian concern. She has also incorporated pro-Palestinian messages into their work, notably in the music video for their 2024 single “Next 2 U,” which opens with a quote from Palestinian poet Hala Alyan and includes the phrase “Long live the intifada,” a controversial statement interpreted by some as a call for liberation and by others as incitement. Kehlani has faced professional repercussions for their stance, including lost opportunities like magazine interviews, brand deals, and a canceled performance at Cornell University’s Slope Day in May 2025, where the university president cited concerns over Kehlani’s “antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments.”
Despite this, Kehlani has remained unapologetic, stating they have “no regrets” about their advocacy, having raised $555,000 for Gaza, Sudan, and Congo through merchandise sales tied to “Next 2 U.” They have clarified that their criticism is not antisemitic but rooted in opposition to the genocide in Gaza, asserting in an April 2025 Instagram video, “I am not antisemitic nor anti-Jew,” and framing their stance as “anti-genocide.”
