Kneecap

Description

Kneecap, the Irish hip-hop trio from Belfast, has been vocal in their support for Palestine and their criticism of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. They have consistently used their platform to highlight the genocide in Gaza, particularly emphasizing the high civilian death toll and the role of foreign governments, especially the United States and the United Kingdom, in supporting Israel’s military campaign. Here are key points regarding their stance:

  • Coachella 2025 Performance: During their April 2025 set at the Coachella music festival, Kneecap displayed messages on screens stating, “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people,” “It is being enabled by the U.S. government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes,” and “Fuck Israel. Free Palestine.” They also led the crowd in chanting “Free Palestine,” framing their actions as a call for solidarity with Palestinians. Mo Chara, a member of the band, stated, “We believe we have an obligation to use our platform when we can to raise the issue of Palestine,” arguing that the U.S. could stop the conflict if it chose to.
  • Glastonbury 2025: At Glastonbury in June 2025, Kneecap continued their pro-Palestinian messaging, with Mo Chara declaring, “Israel are war criminals,” and giving a shout-out to the Palestine Action Group. They performed despite pressure from UK politicians, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who called their appearance “inappropriate.” The band emphasized that the focus should remain on Gaza, stating, “Kneecap are not the story. Gaza is the story. Genocide is the story.”
