Nadine Labaki
Nadine Labaki, a renowned Lebanese filmmaker and activist, has expressed strong views on the situation in Gaza, particularly highlighting the humanitarian crisis and injustices faced by Palestinians. During her speech at the closing ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival in 2024, where she served as a jury member, Labaki implicitly addressed the war in Gaza.
She spoke out against indifference in the face of global injustices, stating, “There are films that remind us of our reality and remind us that the world is, unfortunately, divided into groups and that there are still unbearable injustices. But regardless of the group you belong to, it’s not normal to stay indifferent when there are thousands of children dying under bombardment in their sleep.
” She further emphasized the suffering of women losing their lives and limbs for basic freedoms, which was met with applause from the audience.
