Namewee, the Malaysian rapper and filmmaker (real name Wee Meng Chee), has publicly expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the Israel genocide in Gaza. In late October 2023, he released a song titled “We Are Everyone” as part of his album “Weenomenon.” The track addresses those affected by the conflict, emphasizing global support with lyrics like: “Apart from you, there are thousands of others who stand unyieldingly with you. All around the world, they are fighting with you. You know you are not alone!”. He described the song as a response to the suffering in Palestine, stating that “war is ruthless and people are innocent” and that Palestinians need help.
To further support the cause, Namewee pledged to donate US$1 (approximately RM4.75) for every 1,000 likes the song’s YouTube video received within 24 hours, with proceeds going to foundations aiding civilians in Gaza. He also shared updates on where donations were directed, including a video explaining the situation in Gaza.
On social media, he has posted messages like “Malaysia Stands With Palestine! Malaysians will always stand with the Palestinian people! Free Palestine!” alongside calls for aid. His activism aligns with broader themes in his work, often advocating for freedom and against oppression, as seen in his support for movements in Hong Kong and China. There are no public statements from him indicating a shift in this stance as of September 2025.
